IMPERIAL NUPTIALS

When the Prince of Neufchatel demanded of his Imperial Majesty the hand of his illustrious daughter, for his Master NAPOLEON, he added, "The policy of my sovereign is in unison with the wishes of his heart. — This union of two powerful families, Sire, will give to two generous nations new assurances of tranquility and happiness." In his speech to the Archduchess MARIA LOUISA, he said "Political considerations may have influenced the determinations of both Sovereigns; but it is above all, your consent, Madam, that the Emperor, my master, wishes to obtain. It will be delightful to see on a great throne the Genius of Power united with Beauties and Graces which are dearly loved." The following is the answer of the Archduchess:

"The will of my father has constantly been mine; my happiness will always be involved in his. It is in these principles that the Emperor NAPOLEON cannot fail to find a pledge of the sentiments which will actuate my conduct towards my husband; happy if I can contribute to his happiness, and to that of a great nation. I give, with the permission of my father, my consent to my union with the Emperor NAPOLEON."

The answer of the Archduke CHARLES, to the request of the Emperor NAPOLEON that he would accept his procuration for the marriage ceremony, was peculiarly animated: — It was as follows: —

"I accept with pleasure, Prince, the proposition which his Majesty the Emperor of the French has through you transmitted to me. Equally flattered by his choice, as penetrated with the delightful pre-sentiment that this alliance will efface every trace of political dissention; repair the evils of war, and produce a future happiness to two nations, who are formed to esteem each other, and will render each other a reciprocal justice. — I shall reckon amongst the most interesting moments of my life, that, when in token of a reconciliation as frank as faithful, I shall present the hand of the Archduchess MARIA LOUISA to the Delegate of the Great Monarch, whom you represent; and I pray you, my Prince, to publish to all France my ardent wishes that the virtues of the Archduchess may cement forever the friendship of our Sovereign, and the happiness of their people."

Leyden, March 23. — The Archduke FRANCIS, brother of the Empress of Austria, is to marry MARIA AUGUSTA-ANTOINETTE, Princess Royal of Saxony, and will be created King of Poland.

London, March 23. — The following is an outline of the new Empress of France: — "In figure she is below the middle size; gracefully formed in the neck and shoulders, with a complexion of the most delicate whiteness; a nose somewhat inclined to the Roman, eyes of the most brilliant blue, and a profusion of shining flaxen hair; her hands and feet most delicately shaped; her lips are truly Austrian; however, when opened by a smile, they discover a set of teeth most beautifully arranged, and exquisitely white. I remember to have seen her own lovely Aunt taken from her mother in just such a transitory blaze of beauty, joyfully expecting to fill a long established throne, and afterwards I saw her fall the victim to her subjects — on a scaffold!"

All continental papers are filled with articles on the subject of BONAPARTE’S marriage. — From a theatre of war the different States appear to be converted into one contending scene of gossiping and chit-chat. — With what levity does the mind of man move from the extremes of horror, to the veriest littleness of coffee-cup conferences — from the trumpet’s blast "to the lascivious warblings of the lute!" — From Death, to dance and song, and rout and revelry!

Paris, March 17. — The Emperor is to meet his fair bride at Compeigne. The value of the jewels and nuptial ornaments which NAPOLEON has destined for his bride, are estimated at 18 millions of franks.

It is said, the Archduke CHARLES is to be placed on the throne of Spain.

LATEST FROM ENGLAND

We have received London files to the 29th March.

In every cranny of the European continent, within reach by French cannon, the most inveterate hostility to neutral trade in colonial articles, was in active enforcement. — All the other concerns of the continent, with the bare exception of war operations in Spain, were suspended — grazing at the splendid arrangements made and making to celebrate the new nuptials of NAPOLEON.
