WHAT IF NAPOLEON MAKES AMERICA HIS NEW RESIDENCE?
How fortunate would it be for this country if Bonaparte on his
arrival in America, should select it as his residence. How many
smiles would greet him -- how many noble defenders of his tyranny
and crimes, would give him welcome. A mere loving squeeze of his
hand, would repay many a sleepless night, -- many an idle day
spent in his cause, abusing the British and Tories, -- many a
cutting sarcasm, -- many an election harangue and caucusing
address. The "long agonies" they experienced while
following their great master from "the frightful climate"
of Russia -- from the disastrous flight from Leipsig and his
"dignified retirement" in Elba, would indeed be thrice
repaid. We can easily imagine the animated conversation which
would ensue, each pleading his claim to patronage, from "Fudderal"
Doctor, down to sappyent Sam. Our readers may rest assured, that
should we be so happy as to become fellow-townsmen with his
Imperial Majesty, we shall not fail to issue regular bulletins,
for their instruction and amusement.
